Spring Mill State Park
Read MoreThis image I created while at Spring Mill State Park showcases the dam which collects spring water from Hammer Cave. The water then flows through the sluice gates and into the wooden flume on the right of the picture that is attached to the mill pond. It is then gravity fed through the flume and ultimately hits the over-shot wooden waterwheel on the old gristmill. The energy from the large water wheel then powers the grinding stones for cornmeal inside the mill.
When there is excess water from the springs, it flows over the dam creating a beautiful waterfall as seen here.
While I like the waterfall and the flume, one of the main elements that fascinated me in this scene was the fallen tree in the foreground. I love the natural sculpture effect of the rocks and roots from the tree, and the way the water runs through them creating such interesting water movement downstream.
